[Non-halal] Lao Ban Mian (老板面) serves a satisfying bowl of Salted Egg Pan Mee.
Originally from Johor, Lao Ban Mian has since expanded to more than 12 outlets nationwide. Besides its popular salted egg version, the menu also features interesting variations such as Nyonya Asam, Kam Heong and Mala Pan Mee.
We visited the Bandar Menjalara branch during our latest visit.

Salted Egg Pan Mee

Priced at RM14.90, the Salted Egg Pan Mee comes in a fairly generous portion. We opted for the thick noodles, which were well coated in a creamy salted egg sauce. The gravy was rich without being overly cloying, with balanced flavours and just the right touch of heat to cut through the jelak-ness.
The noodles were topped with crispy beancurd skin and fried pork wontons, and served alongside a bowl of soup.

We also appreciated the option to add extra ingredients such as braised chicken feet, curry fish balls and fried dough sticks for RM4.90. The chicken feet, in particular, were braised to perfect tenderness.
Traditional Pan Mee

We were less enthused about the Traditional Pan Mee (RM11.90). The broth lacked depth and could have benefited from a stronger anchovy base and more sayur manis.
