[Non-halal] Big flavours at Little Eat Stall. Our quest to find the best fish noodles in the Klang Valley led us to this not-so-little shack in Pudu.
If you recall, our favourite fish noodles can be found at Yeng Kee Noodle House in Taman Yulek.
According to a foodie friend Mikey Wes, even the chef at our favourite Yeng Kee Noodle House says this is the best in town (yes, even better than his own concoction)!
So, did it live up to expectations? Read on to find out.
Little Eat Stall in Pudu
Little Eat Stall is located at Jalan Beruang in Pudu.
While it technically operates as a roadside stall under a zinc roof – the place is very spacious and clean. We also enjoyed the natural ventilation, with sufficient shade to protect us from the morning sun.
Operated by Mr and Mrs Dang since the 1980s, Little Eat Stall first started as a chicken rice stall before it started offering noodle dishes such as fish noodles, pork noodles, and kai si hor fun (flat noodles with shredded chicken).
It had also since opened two branches in Atria, Petaling Jaya, and Rhythm Avenue, Subang Jaya.
While the branch in Atria (operated by a close relative) is much closer to our home, we heard that the food quality is inconsistent. Hence, we made it a point to check out the original branch here in Pudu.
Different noodles, different days
Despite arriving at noon on a Saturday, we were able to find seats.
Do note that Little Eat Stall offers different noodles each day, as such:
- Mon – Kai si hor fun
- Tues – Fish noodles
- Wed – Pork Noodles
- Thurs – Kai si hor fun
- Fri – Fish noodles
- Sat – Fish noodles
We found this concept really interesting, but we surmise that the fish noodles are probably the most famous since it is served 3x a week.
Awesome bowls of fish noodles soup
We ordered two bowls of fish noodles – one with grouper fish fillet, and another with fish head. These two bowls came up to RM36.
Let’s talk soup! We found the clear soup to be sufficient savoury with a hint of sweetness from the rice wine. We have a preference for a clean and clear soup – so we were very pleased with this as we could taste the natural sweetness of the fish broth.
Interestingly, the soup also includes slices of winter gourd for added sweetness, with the usual embellishment of sliced ginger, spring onion, and coriander leaves.
Tender and huge fish slices
We also enjoyed the fish slices. The fish slices were thick and tender – and cooked perfectly to yield the best texture. They were fresh too as we did not taste any “fishiness” at all.
Max also enjoyed his bowl of noodles with the grouper head – which tasted as good as the fish fillet but with lesser meat.
Verdict
Overall, we really enjoyed the fish noodles here.
While we still do prefer the fish noodles at Yeng Kee Noodle House (for similar quality of fish and a stronger wine taste), this is still one of the better ones we tasted in the Klang Valley.
We also enjoyed the atmosphere with people from all walks of life (from Datos to blue-collar workers) enjoying their noodles under the same (zinc) roof.
Mr and Mrs Deng were also seen enjoying the music (Bee Gees were playing on their stereo) as the kitchen is operated by a couple of strong, young, and good-looking Chinese chefs.
