Puchong Yong Tau Fu at Batu 14
[Non-halal] Puchong Yong Tau Fu (YTF) at Batu 14 is probably the most famous YTF restaurant in the area.
Occupying a corner house opposite SK Puchong, this restaurant is known for cooking fresh YTF to order, with a variety of vegetables.
The last time we visited this spot was over 10 years ago – but recently tapau-ed from this restaurant twice when we were in the area.
Puchong Yong Tau Fu
We have known about this restaurant for over a decade. We really enjoyed the YTF here when we last visited although it can get quite hot and stuffy on a hot day.
So was the YTF still good after all the years? We are happy to say – YES!
Each YTF is cooked fresh to order
What sets Puchong Yong Tau Fu apart from the rest is the breadth of YTF choices, and each piece is cooked fresh to order (similar to our other favourite YTF spot in Old Town PJ – see post here).
To order – you need to pick your vegetables at the counter, and submit it to the kitchen to be stuffed with the filling and fried on the spot.
As such, it can take awhile for the food to be served. So be prepared to wait for your food to arrive.
When we tapau-ed here twice at 3pm on Sundays recently – we still had to wait 20 minutes for our order to be ready.
Aside from the usual stuffed brinjals, white tofu and chillies – Puchong Yong Tau Fu also offers interesting vegetables such as long beans, lotus root and youtiao. Each piece is priced at RM2.20.
Why do we like Puchong YTF?
So here’s why we like Puchong YTF.
For one – the soup is really flavourful as they use a lot of sayur manis to sweeten the soup.
We usually order a separate order of Sayur Manis (RM6) as we like this so much.
Secondly – as each piece is made to order, they all taste fresh. The fish paste has enough fish taste with a nice substantial texture. The fried pieces are alway crispy.
Thirdly, the pieces are really big and we usually get quite filled with only 5-6 pieces.
Our mom also enjoys the YTF here.
Summary
The dining experience can be challenging as it can get quite crowded and stuffy hot. Hence, that is why we like to tapau for home.
After all these years, we are happy to report that the YTF here still tasted as good as ever. RECOMMENDED!
