Restoran IV in Pandamaran Klang
[Halal] Jom, let’s go to Restoran IV in Klang to eat roti canai!
Huh? Are you sure it’s not Bak Kut Teh? Yes – we drove all the way to Pandamaran in Klang to eat the famous roti canai at Restoran IV.
Restoran IV in Pandamaran Klang
Pandamaran town in Klang is known for its concentration of famous bak kut teh restaurants. In particular, Jalan Chan Ah Choo in Pandamaran is known to have the most number of bak kut teh restaurants on the same street.
However, Pandamaran has another culinary claim to fame, and that’s the roti canai at Restoran IV.
Famous roti canai at Restoran IV
Last weekend, we made a trip to Port Klang for seafood (post coming soon!) and we decided to make a pit stop at Restoran IV.
Restoran IV is said to serve the best roti canai in Klang (and some even say in Malaysia!) – so we were here to find out if it lives up to its fame.
(Side-note: We used to like the one at Valentine Roti but the quality had drastically deteriorated during our recent visits).
Aside from roti canai, Restoran IV is also known for its nasi lemak bungkus and roti telur.
Roti Canai is the specialty!
Restoran IV looks just like any other regular mamak stall – so don’t expect anything fancy here.
However, it was interesting to see two huge kitchen islands where four cooks (and eight hands) were seen deftly making fresh orders of the flatbread.
Hence – it is obvious that roti is popular here, and we didn’t need to wait long for our order to arrive.
Roti canai kasi garing hits the spot!
We thought our first order of Roti Canai (RM1.80) was just ok.
We specifically told the server to make our roti canai garing (crispy) but he unfortunately did not understand us.
To be sure, the regular roti canai here was decent. As it was made fresh – the roti was soft and fluffy, and we found the flavours to be excellent. However, it was just not crispy enough for us.
For our second order, we specifically told the captain that we wanted ours garing!
Roti canai garing crackles in all the right way!
And this second piece hits the spot! The texture was *chef’s kiss* perfect.
The bread was just crispy in all the right way as it crackled and crinkled when cut with our forks!
There were no doughy uncooked parts at all, and we liked that some parts were a bit browned for a flavourful kick.
The texture is one thing – but the roti also stood out in terms of flavours. It had just the right amount of salt that we could eat it on its own. But we also found it more fragrant than regular run-of-the-mill roti.
The secret – we found out as we watched the cooks make the roti – was the generous amount of ghee added to each bread that gives it the extra zing!
Fresh, crispy, fragrant, and not dry – this was a superb roti canai.
Roti telur and dhal were just ok
We thought the Roti Telur here was better than average. We usually don’t enjoy roti telur as the addition of egg tends to make it less garing.
However, the cooks here seem to have done quite a good job as there were parts of the roti telur that remained crispy.
We thought the accompanying dhal, fish curry, and chicken curry were just decent.
Nasi lemak bungkus
The Nasi Lemak Bungkus here seems to be quite popular as well. You can opt for the regular nasi lemak with your choice of dishes but nothing beats a good ol’ packet of fragrant rice.
Overall, we thought the Nasi Bungkus was decent. Rice was flavourful and rich in santan flavour, and the sambal is more onion-based, and leans towards the sweeter side.
However, we’d rather save our tummy for more roti canai.
The teh tarik here is decent as well – but it was nothing to shout about.
Summary
Did we enjoy the roti canai? Yes – but it has to be garing, as is it to our preference.
The other dishes were decent as well but the roti canai is the reason to visit Restoran IV.
RECOMMENDED!
