Restoran Perlama Seafood
[Pork-free, lard-free] Restoran Perlama Seafood in Port Klang serves amazing claypot seafood porridge and other dishes.
Located next to the river, Perlama Seafood offers a lovely view of the harbour and the occasional boats speeding by.
This restaurant was recommended by a dear friend for its seafood porridge, which was one of the best we had in recent years.
We had a good lunch here while enjoying the lovely breeze from the sea.
Restoran Perlama Seafood in Port Klang
Located in Port Klang, Restoran Perlama Seafood is about a 15-minute drive away from Klang town and is close to Tanjung Harapan.
Driving here is easy and we like that the restaurant offers plenty of carpark spots.
According to our friend, Restoran Perlama Seafood is quite popular with the locals for fresh seafood dishes at reasonable prices.
A restaurant with a view
Located close to the harbour, Restoran Perlama Seafood is clean and well-maintained with two spacious space for a comfortable dining experience.
We are happy to report that the washrooms here are quite modern and clean – which should appease those who are particular about this.
Despite the scorching weather that day, we were kept quite cool during our meal thanks to the high ceiling, bountiful ceiling fans and cool breeze from the river.
With most riverside restaurants in Port Klang, the view is not particularly spectacular but Perlama at least offers a cool view of riverboats at harbour and a bridge where you can see trains pass by.
Dinner time also offers a view of the sunset over the bridge.
Signature seafood porridge
The most popular dish here is the Signature Seafood Porridge (RM40-60), which consists fish, prawn, clams, century and salted egg in claypot porridge.
There is an option to add crabs, but since it was only the two of us that day – we thought the base seafood porridge should suffice.
After about a 15-minute wait, the seafood porridge promptly arrive. Even though we ordered the smallest size at RM40, the portion was quite generous.
All of the seafood were fresh and we could taste the subtle seafood flavours in the porridge. We liked the extra flavour kick from the sliced ginger, century and salted egg. The porridge has a good thick consistency that thickens up as it is kept warm in the claypot.
Prawns were fresh and succulent, and we loved the sweetness in the fish fillet although there were still small bones present.
Clams were fresh too with nary a sand found!
Steamed clams with ginger and wine
Boston Baru might be the most famous spot in Klang for steamed clams, but the one here is quite good in our books.
For RM38, the portion again superseded our expectations. We guesstimate about 500g of clams for our order and we appreciate that all the clams arrived with flesh inside.
We found the broth to be quite balanced – it wasn’t too spicy with a subtle wine taste and a stronger garlicky hit.
Cheat code: mix the fragrant clam rice wine into the porridge for a deeper umami and flavour bomb.
All the clams were fresh, plump and succulent.
Claypot kangkung
The Claypot Kangkung (RM18 for small) here was decent as well. Foregoing belacan, this dish relies on onions for its flavour base which gives it a sweeter and lighter taste. The kangkung were crispy and fresh.
Summary
Overall, we were really pleased with our meal here. We will be happy to make a trip here again for the seafood porridge and steamed clams.
This is a good place to come in a big group, and we will return with our friends and family.
