San Peng Prawn Mee is our favourite spot for prawn noodles in KL!
First , a disclaimer: This is not your Penang-style Hokkien prawn mee. Instead of the usual spicy broth, the humble stall serves prawn mee in clear soup (our favourite!) So what you get is pure, unadulterated broth that has been cooked for hours with lots of prawn heads and shell.
What we love about this place is that you could really taste the prawn essence in the soup without the chilli distracting from the flavours.
The usual spicy prawn mee is also available for order – but just help yourself to the pot of home-made chilli on the table to adjust the spicy-ness to your heart’s desire.
RM8 for the Regular Prawn Mee gives you plenty of peeled prawns, as well as a substantial amount of chicken pieces. Our mom said portion was quite good for the price. However, you can opt for the Special Version (RM22) which comes with three sizeable tiger prawns! The prawns was so fresh and succulent! The stall also serves lam mee (which we haven’t tried) as well as fish and pork balls. (ok-oklah).
A final disclaimer: there are days when the prawn taste was a bit lacking (probably, the prawn stock not so “kau” that day) but most times, the soup is on point! So, please do come and try again if you happen to come on an “off day” HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
