We start our first weekend of 2020 right with banana leaf rice at our favourite restaurant.
This place was recommended by our friend who lives in Brickfields – she frequently comes here with her hubby and kid for breakfast.
What we love about Vishalatchi is that the Chettinad curries and dalchas are full of spices and flavours but never too unbearably spicy.
Bone marrow dalcha
We always ask for the Bone Marrow Dalcha. According to the friendly uncle who served us: the bone marrow dalcha is different on weekends as they add eggplants and potatoes. The dalcha is also thicker as they use a lot of lentils. On weekdays, the dalcha are without the additional veggies. We love it as the bone marrow gives a richness to to the dalcha – providing a lovely thick consistency that goes so well with the parboiled Indian rice. Ask for some bone marrow pieces to dig in too!
Turkey kurma
Vishalatchi never fails to surprise whenever we are here. We tried the Turkey Kurma (RM15) – the meat is surprisingly tender and goes well with the tangy kurma. Max enjoys it but not so much for Ming.
Mutton briyani
The Mutton Briyani (RM15) is excellent! Generous portion, tender and flavourful mutton, and rice that is fluffy soft – having thoroughly absorbed all the spices when cooked. This is one of the best briyani in town, in our opinions.
.
We ended the meal with Chicken Rasam (so good!). The mutton varuval should please those who wants more heat and the fried chicken/fish are made fresh with fragrant spices.
Fried chicken
It’s quite good for the wallet too – RM6.50 for the standard banana leaf rice and RM6 for the fried chicken – especially when compared to other places in PJ. RECOMMENDED.
