[Non-halal] Staple Dough is one of the latest eateries in the newly-developed Megah Rise Mall in Taman Megah.
We visited this modern Italian restaurant in early January – just a few weeks after it had opened for business.

The beautiful interior was the first to catch our eyes, and we liked the focus on handmade pasta on the menu.
Burrata and Lobster Bisque
We started the night with the Burrata Caprese (RM49) – burrata cheese served with arugula, cherry tomatoes, watermelon, lychee, and Jamon in a white balsamic reduction.
While we found the mix of greens and fruits to be refreshing – with a good savoury hit from the Jamon and acidity from the tomato – we were ultimately let down by the burrata.
The burrata was unfortunately solid all the way through, with no creamy softness in the middle (which is the best part of the burrata, after all).
We also found the Lobster Bisque with Seafood soup (RM29) to be one-dimensional. While the seafood was fresh, we found the soup to be too heavy on the seasoning. The toasted sourdough focaccia on the side was served cold as well.
Handmade Pici Carbonara and Crab Agnolotti
For mains, we tried the Pici Carbonara (RM38) and Crab Agnolotti (RM48).
We thought that the pici pasta had a nice al-dente texture, with decent creaminess in the egg yolk sauce, and a savoury hit from the guanciale.
The Crab Agnolotti had a decent portion for the price. While the agnolotti pasta was generously packed with crab meat, we found the vadouvan spice gravy a bit overpowering and too similar-tasting to regular curry powder.
Overall, we think Staple Dough needs a bit more time to fine-tune its offerings and improve its dishes.
We understand that Staple Dough is a fresh venture for its first-time restauranteurs, and appreciate the explanation and attentive service from the staff. We also liked that they were open to feedback, as they looked to improve their menu for the future.
