[Halal] Annyeonghaseyo 안녕하세요, cheese chicken satu!
Swetree is one of the more popular Halal-certified Korean restaurants in KL.
It was indeed very popular. The lunch crowd quickly filled up the place when we were there, but they did practice great SOP. They have shoe sanitizer mat at the entrance, yo!
Shoe sanitiser mat! You know they take cleaniness seriously.
Decor is fun and eclectic, and they have a surau and cultural centre – albeit these are closed now due to the pandemic. They also have private rooms (for parties or business meetings).
The food? Oh yes – the Cheese Chicken (RM50 for 1/2 bird) was good. We opted for original and sweet and spicy chicken. The chicken pieces are huge (vs. the ones you find at other K-chicken restaurants), but some of these actually contain bones. The original chicken can get a bit dry, but it is quite nice when wrapped with cheese.
Cheese chicken – we opted for original and sweet & spicy
Yup, the staff actually melts the cheese on a stove on our table before wrapping the chicken.
I definitely prefer the sweet and spicy version – it was mildly spicy, sticky-sweet and goes well with the cheese.
Sweet and spicy Original
We really enjoyed the Kimchi Jiggae 김치찌개 (RM24) here. It is one of the better ones I tried – the soup was super flavourful and rich. I like that you can choose the soup base (mild or thick) and spicy levels.
Kimchi-jiggae – thick and flavourful
Bulgogi pot
As for the Bulgogi Pot (RM24), I thought it was pretty normal and comparable to ones elsewhere.
Banchan (side dishes)
Our meal came with plenty of refillable banchan 반찬 (side dishes). Overall, we were very pleased and we would return for the kimchi jiggae and cheese chicken. They also serve Korean BBQ, pasta and army stew (check out the website for full menu). Definitely go early to secure a spot.
