Tang Yuan Fang, Kepong
[Pork-free] We finally visited Tang Yuan Fang 汤圆坊 in Kepong.
Originally from Port Klang, Tang Yuan Fang gained further popularity in the last few years when it operated a stall at MT Pak Lok in Taman Paramount.
Tang Yuan Fang is known for its homemade tong sui – particularly the smooth tong yuan with peanut/black sesame filling in ginger soup.
Tang Yuan Fang in Kepong

Located on Metro Prima, this is the first stand-alone shop for Tang Yuan Fang 汤圆坊.
This dessert spot is run by Matthew, who is the third generation of the family selling the tong sui since 1988.

Operating since June, this spot is quite popular – as we had to wait for a table even on a Thursday night.
But it was worth it.

Aside from the traditional tong yuan, Tang Yuan Fang also serves Muah Chee, Taro Cake and Waffles. Other traditional desserts here include Bubur Cha Cha, Ginkgo Barley, Red Bean Soup and Sweet Peanut Soup.
Tang Yuan and more

We opted for the Tang Yuan with Peanut Filing (RM4.90 for two balls).
This bowl definitely hits the spot as Tang Yuan uses Bentong ginger for the dessert – which gives a very prominent spicy kick. However, there is an option to reduce the spiciness (and sweetness) of the dessert if you prefer.
The highlight had to be the tang yuan balls as the skin was one of the smoothest we’ve eaten with peanut filling that’s perfectly balanced in nuttiness, savouriness and sweetness.

We also enjoyed the Muah Chee (RM6.90) with Peanuts. Similar to the tang yuan, the muah chee had a nice smooth texture and the peanut mix provided a nice sweet-savoury hit.

Topped with a generous amount of fried shallots, the Taro Cake (RM3.50) was quite decent too.
Conclusion
The Tang Yuan and Muah Chee are worth a visit, and we’d hope to try the Ginkgo Barley next time (it was sold out when we were there).
