[Pork-free] TBX The Baking Xperiment is a lovely new cafe in Subang Jaya.
Previously known as The Brownie Xperiment, TBX started as a home-based bakery at the beginning of the pandemic in 2000.
The founders began selling decadent brownies from their home kitchen in Subang.
TBX would rebrand to its current name and expand its baked offerings. It finally opened a brick-and-mortar bakery cafe in March in SS17 Subang.
The Baking Xperiment in Subang
We absolutely loved the space here in TBX.
Occupying an end-lot allowed the owners to substitute glass walls for bricks – which provides plenty of natural light to flood the interior. We love the touch of pastel pink, geometrical shapes, and clean lines that adorn the cafe.
Scones at The Baking Xperiment
TBX offered plenty of sweet and savoury pastries, but we couldn’t help but order the Scones of the Day with Mascarpone Cream and Jam (RM8).
The scone was decently crumbly with raisins in them, but the highlight had to be the natural berries jam, which was not too sweet and full of “berry” flavour.
Carrot cake at TBX
We enjoyed the Carrot Cake (RM15) more as it was quite a decent slice for the price. The cake was sufficiently moist with plenty of nuts for texture and bite.
We would have preferred a bit of salt in the cream (a very personal preference, based on a carrot cake we like at our favourite cafe) though, for some contrast.
Overall, we had a good time here. One of the operators was kind enough to check in on us and provided some background on TBX.
We also enjoyed the neighbourhood vibes of TBX, and we believe it will be mainstay for Subang-ites for years to come.
