[Halal beef] Who loves wagyu beef? After hearing our friend rave about this place, we checked out the newly opened Wagyu Restaurant on Lorong Yap Kwan Seng.
Taking up a small room on the first floor of a bungalow lot (and above 19th Suzuki Hanten), Wagyu Restaurant offers premium Japanese wagyu beef priced much lower than other yakiniku places. This is because the owners are actually wagyu wholesalers with their own trading company.
Wagyu beef platter
For its opening promotion in Oct, the restaurant offered the RM148 platter – comprising 200g Japanese short ribs (kalbi), 80g prime kalbi, and 48g Aussie beef tongue.
Short ribs… …ready to eat.
What can I say? Beautiful marbling, lovely fat and meat ratio – the kalbi slices were heaven in our mouth. Beef tongue was sliced a bit thinner than what we are used to – but it still hits the mark.
Beef tongue
The cuts are already seasoned with pepper and salt, but sweet shoyu sauce, salt, and lemon are also offered as condiments. I found the salt to be the best to accentuate the natural and juicy flavours of the beef.
Garlic fried rice
We also enjoyed their Garlic Fried Rice (RM23) – full of wok hei with lovely beef bits as well. It was a bit oily though.
The assorted Namul (RM22) comprising sprout, royal fern, spinach and radish were ok-oklah as an appetizer. We prefer the kale salad at the ever-popular Shin Nihon.
We counted only six tables at the premise – so make reservations to avoid disappointment.
