Trattoria Dacristian in Bangsar
[Non-halal] Find pizzas, handmade pastas and cold cuts at Trattoria Dacristian in Bangsar Utama.
Newly opened in July this year, we stumbled upon this lovely spot when we were in the area.
Helmed by friendly chef Christian Grandhi, Trattoria serves up comforting Italian fare in a very simple but homely space.
We thought the food was delicious, the portion was excellent, and enjoyed the service here.
Trattoria Dacristian in Bangsar Utama
Born in Bologna, chef Christian has worked in KL for almost a decade before he opened up this spot in Bangsar.
Trattoria Dacristian offers an extensive menu from Italian cold cuts such as prosciutto di Parma and salami, to handmade gnocchi and tonarelli, and classic Margherita and Calzone pizzas.
Parma Ham with rock melon
Ming absolutely loves Parma ham, so had to order the Prosciutto e Melone (RM36) here.
The pairing of salty, savoury Parma ham and sweet rock melon is a match made in heaven – and the one here doesn’t disappoint.
Instead of wedges, chef Cristian opted to serve the melon in slices which makes for an interesting salty-to-sweet ratio when eaten together with the ham.
Risotto with the fruits of the sea
We’ve been craving for a good risotto, and ordered the Risotto di Mare (RM68) from the special menu.
We enjoyed this a lot. With the white sauce as base, the risotto was sufficiently imbued with seafood flavours.
True to its name, the dish was a cornucopia of “fruits of the sea” with a generous portion of squid, mussels, clams and tiger prawns.
All were fresh, all were sweet – with some nice dried tomato tartness to cut through the briny flavours.
Affumicata, all for me casa
Trattoria Dacristian offers a selection of classic Italian pizzas such as Margherita, Diavola, and Formaggi on its menu.
However we were mainly intrigued by its special pizza selection that features everything from scrambled eggs, bacon to red radicchio and smoked Scamorza.
All of the pies here are cooked in Cristian’s custom-built oven.
With 20 pizzas on its menu, we settled for the Affumicata (RM48) – a tomato-based pie topped with mozzarella, honey ham, porcini, sausage and smoked Scamorza.
This was most delicious! We enjoyed the thin crust but the crème de la crème is the pairing of sliced smoked Scamorza (cheese that originated from Southern Italy) with porcini and honey ham.
It tasted good at the restaurant, and even better when we brought it back home!
Tagliatelle al Ragu
The Tagliatelle Al Ragu (RM38) was our least favourite but that’s because the other dishes we had were stellar.
The handmade tagliatelle is silky smooth and generous in portion, with earthy tomato-base flavours with minced pork.
Summary
Overall, we enjoyed our meal here. The service is excellent, the food is good, and we thought the price commensurate with the portion. The wine selection is robust too.
