TSH Kepong Hokkien Mee
[Non-halal] We found the food at TSH Kepong Hokkien Mee to be delicious and reasonably priced.
This Chinese dai chow place is especially popular on weekends.
Nevertheless, service was very efficient and we didn’t have to wait long to get a table.
TSH Kepong Hokkien Mee in Kepong

The Hokkien Mee dish is only available on weekdays.
For RM10, the portion is quite generous and it hits all the right spots. There’s enough hint of wok hei with a good amount of pork lard.

Also – no alkaline taste in the noodle as well, which is much appreciated.

Two types of fish dish

Our favorite dish here has to be the Sweet and Sour Fried Tilapia. You can order the whole fish which costs RM36 or in fillet form for RM25.

We liked this dish as the fish was skillfully fried to yield crispy skin, without sacrificing the sweetness and texture integrity of the flesh.
The sauce also has the right balance of sweetness and sourness without making the dish too jelak (cloying).

Both versions were consistent in flavour and texture – but definitely go for the whole fish for a slightly bigger portion.

The Steamed Tilapia with Choy Poh (RM30) is also a good option. The fried choy poh bits provide interesting texture to the dish and the fish was deftly steamed to yield a firm texture.
Salted Egg Sotong and Tofu

The Salted Egg Sotong (RM27) is executed well as the salted egg yolk just had a good hit of umami and a slight sweetness to counter the saltiness.

We also enjoyed the Sizzling Tofu (RM15) here for the fresh tofu cubes in savoury soy-based gravy. No faults with the veggies here either.
Conclusion

We’ve been exploring food in Kepong more frequently (see our previous few posts), and would rate this as one of our favourite discoveries.
