Uncle Chua’s Prawn Noodle 泉记虾面
[Non-halal] Uncle Chua’s Prawn Noodle serves a mean bowl of Penang Hokkien Mee in Bukit Menjalara, Kepong.
We first stumbled upon this restaurant when we were doing our errands at JPJ.
Uncle Chua’s Prawn Noodle in Kepong
Opened for a few years, this is actually the second branch for Uncle Chua’s Prawn Noodle.
The first branch is located in Taman Putra, Ampang and is quite a popular spot for Penang Hokkien Mee in the area.
However, this branch tends to be a bit quiet, which is strange as we enjoyed the food here.
According to a fellow foodie Babe KL, Mr and Mrs Chua personally sources for the freshest prawns in KL and Sekinchan to create the potent broth.
We also thought the weekend set lunches were a good deal. For RM10.90, you can get a bowl of Prawn Noodles with a drink. For RM14.90, you can add a side dish as well.
Prawn Noodles Soup
We ordered the Prawn Noodles Soup as part of the RM10.90 set lunch with a drink. For the price, we thought the portion was generous as it came with a good amount of noodles, pork slices, kangkung, half of a boiled egg, and prawns.
The prawn noodles broth was really robust -with lots of prawn essence and pork flavours. There is also just the right touch of heat from chillies. In fact, we think the broth tasted quite close to our favourite one at Yong Len in TTDI.
Uncle Chua also serves a special homemade chilli condiment, which you can add to the soup for a more tangy/spicy kick.
If you like your prawn noodles to pack a punch – this bowl shouldn’t disappoint. You can also order your noodles with pork ribs or tiger prawns on the ala carte menu.
Uncle Chua also serves a dry version of the Prawn Noodles, which we did not try.
Lam Mee with Fuchuk
The Lam Mee here goes for RM15.90 as part of the set lunch with a drink, and a side dish of your choice.
We thought the gravy was a bit light on the prawn/pork taste, with a more “potato-ey” base that reminded us of Mee Rebus.
Nevertheless, the addition of chilli condiment and vinegar brought the taste to the next level.
Similar to the prawn noodles, we thought the portion was quite decent with a good amount of prawns, pork slices, and boiled egg.
The accompanying Fried Beancurd with Fungus was enjoyable as it was crispy, with a nice added earthy flavours from fungus.
Summary
Overall, we enjoyed our meal here as we thought the flavours were robust, with an excellent portion. The place is also clean and comfortable with adequate air-conditioning to shield us from the sweltering heat outside. Do check this spot out!
