Warabimochi Kamakura in KL
[Pork-free] Warabimochi Kamakura, a Japanese chain known for its, well, warabimochi – has made a landfall in KL.
With over 60 stores worldwide, this wagashi chain has opened two outlets in APW and Mid Valley Mall.
While the dessert looks like mochi, the warabimochi is actually made from bracken starch (instead of glutinous rice).
This results in a jelly-like texture that’s way softer than your regular mochi. It’s also gluten free.
Warabimochi Kamakura in Bangsar

We visited the branch at APW for a quick afternoon fix.
The warabimochi is coated in kinako (roasted soybean powder) and there’s an option to add kuromitsu (brown sugar syrup).
Think mochi but it’s way more delicate and softer with lovely nutty hits from the kinako. We didn’t need too much kuromitsu as well.

We also tried the Asakawa-en Matcha sans the cream: bitter and umami-rich matcha paired with sweet-ish warabimochi at the bottom.
This place is worth checking out.
