Wartek in Ara Damansara
[Halal ingredients] We enjoyed the food here at Wartek, a new Indonesian spot serving bebek goreng and other dishes in Ara Damansara.
Operated by the same folks behind Kotak Plus in SS15 Subang, you can find Indonesian delicacies such as Nasi Uduk, Soto Betawi and an array of dishes such as Ayam Pop, Gulai Ayam, and Dendeng Balado.
Wartek in Ara Damansara
We love Nasi Padang and Indonesian food!
Hence, we were elated when we found out Wartek opened close to our home.
Similar to the roadside warungs in Indonesian, the dishes are laid out in a spread (ala Chinese economy rice or nasi campur) where customers can pick their own dishes.
We found the space here to be very comfortable with its wooden trims and a skylight to brighten up the interior.
Nasi Bebek Madura
The popular dishes here seem to be the Bebek and Ayam Madura set, which are rice sets served with your choice of fried chicken or duck leg.
Evidently, we went for the latter as Bebek Goreng is somewhat of a rarity in the Klang Valley. The Bebek Madura (RM19.80) comprises fragrant rice, a whole fried duck leg, and two types of sambal.
This was delicious! For one, the rice here was really fragrant and was cooked with santan to give it that oomph – similar to our nasi lemak.
The bebek was perfectly cooked with a crispy skin, and meat that was tender and juicy. It went well with the two types of sambal – one was not as spicy as the other.
Excellent stuff.
Ayam Pop and Dendeng Balado
Originating from West Sumatra, Ayam Pop (RM9.80) is one of our favourite Indonesian dishes but rarely found here in KL. Our other favourite spot for Ayam Pop is at Nasi Kapau in Chow Kit (see our post here).
Ayam Pop is truly a special dish as the chicken is first boiled/steamed in coconut water, before it is deep fried and served with sambal.
See our Ayam Pop pressure cooker recipe here.
The Ayam Pop here is sufficiently tender with a good salty hit to go with the white rice. It paired really well with the accompanying sambal which has an extra tanginess due to the addition of tamarind.
Meanwhile, the Dendeng Balado (RM7.80) is on the crispier side and topped with red chilli sambal.
Gulai Ayam
For something with gravy, go for the Gulai Ayam (RM7.80).
Wartek’s gulai is rich in santan and not too spicy, which should please most palates. Chicken is also tender as it should be.
No complaints about the Pucuk Ubi Masak Lemak (RM4.80) and Perkedel (RM2.80) either. The former is cooked well with enough santan, and the Perkedel has a generous filling of potato and meat inside.
Summary
Overall, we were really happy that Wartek has opened so close to home – making Nasi Padang and Bebek more accessible than ever.
RECOMMENDED!
