AhMa Pan Mee SS2
[Non-halal] What, another pan mee post? Strangely, both of us craved for pan mee after returning from Tokyo.
And we were quite excited to find a new pan mee shop in SS2 PJ.
AhMa Pan Mee 阿嫲刀麻切 in SS2

AhMa Pan Mee 阿嫲刀麻切 is located on the same row as Uncle Don’s in the ever popular commercial area, and is just next to the police station.
What differentiates AhMa from the peers, is that the recipe is based on the founder’s grandmother recipe in Raub.

Instead of the usual pinched and machine cut noodles, AhMa Pan Mee offers only one type of hand cut noodles based on the grandma’s recipe. The result is noodles that have a nice springy texture without any kan sui taste.
AhMA’s recipe also differs from others with its special minced pork cooked with salted mustard greens, which gives a unique savoury hit.
AhMa Pan Mee offers a good variety of noodles – from the OG soup base to chilli dry pan mee, and even mala dry pan mee. The combo sets here are pretty enticing for RM20.90 as it comes with a drink and a mini snack/dessert.
Original Pan Mee Soup

As mentioned, the Original Pan Mee Soup (RM20.90 in a set with drink and side) was quite unique.
While the broth still uses anchovies and sayur manis as a base, the soup is further coloured by the minced pork-mustard green mix which adds a nice savoury complexity. AhMa also offers tender pork belly slices (instead of lean pork) for protein with additional texture from fried anchovies and shallots.

Interestingly, AhMa provides a whole boiled egg (instead of the usual soft boiled egg) in the noodles. The egg was done quite well as it was not overcooked with a bit of jammy yolk that suits the ensemble.
Dry Pan Mee

We wanted to try the Curry Pan Mee, but it was unfortunately sold out that day. No matter – we ordered the Dry Pan Mee instead.

Whilst the toppings are similar to the soup version, the soy sauce mix was actually quite fragrant and mixed well with the minced pork, anchovies and fried shallots. The chilli condiment give the dish an extra zing!
Sides and ho kar sai

As part of our set meals, we ordered the Deep Fried Homemade Fish Tofu and Thai-style Fish Cakes. Both were delicious and did their jobs. We also upgraded one drink to Ho Kar Sai (+RM3.90) which is a mix of Milo and Kopi-O. This was quite rich and satisfying – and the same can be said of the herbal tea we ordered as well.
Conclusion
So will we return? Yes! AhMa Pan Mee offers a unique take on the beloved dish. Aside from noodles, AhMa also offers a variety of rice-based dishes as well.
