[Pork-free] Run by the same folks behind Serai Group, Blonde in Republik offers something different from their usual Asian fare.
Nevertheless, Chef Najib does inject some Asian flair into their menu which mainly features pastas, pizzas, burgers and meat-based mains.
We enjoyed the Squid Ink Spaghetti (RM39) – it comes with two sizeable Hokkaido scallops and topped with flower crab meat and ikura. The pasta had a nice bite with the the various seafood flavours complementing each other.
Seared dry aged Shanghainese crusted duck breast
Don’t be alarmed by Blonde’s duck breast that is served medium rare. Blonde’s Seared Dry Aged Shanghainese Crusted Duck Breast (RM55) was perfectly cooked with tender flavourful meat and a lovely seared exterior. We especially like the crunchy bits on the top. This, we think, was the best of our lot.
Napoli spaghetti
If you prefer some pasta with your duck breast, you can’t go wrong with the Napoli Spaghetti (RM38).
We are less enthused about the pizzas though – while it gets the job done, it’s not memorable. It’s ok-oklah. Our vegetarian Truffle Mushroom with Truffle Oil, Parmesan and Rocket pizza (RM45) smells lovely but the portion is quite small for the price.
Vegetarian mushroom and truffle oil pizza
Heard it can get super busy on weekends (the eye-catching pink-hued interior may be a factor drawing the Instagram crowd) – so we advise you to come on weekdays and book to avoid disappointment.
