Chong Brothers Restaurant, Sg Buloh
[Non-halal] Chong Brothers Restaurant is a great spot for delicious and affordable steamed Song fish head in Sungai Buloh.
We discovered this family-run restaurant when the Jeff Lee Kitchen (see our post) was too busy for dinner.
We then found this spot and we’ve been returning since.
Chong Brothers Restaurant in Sg Buloh
Located in the industrial area of Sungai Buloh, Chong Brothers is a simple place that offers Song fish head as its main dish in a variety of styles.
Aside from that, Chong Brothers also serves other dishes like Hakka cha yuk, yam pork belly, and steamed meat patties.
Steamed ginger-style Song fish head
For our first visit, we tried the Steamed Ginger-style “Chin Ching” Song Fish Head (RM30).
The size of the fish was quite big for the price. More importantly, it was perfectly steamed to yield flesh that is soft and tender.
The fish is fresh and we liked the use of julienned young ginger (vs. old Bentong ginger) for a lighter taste that paired well with the soy sauce base and sliced chillies.
Steamed choy poh Song fish head
The steamed Choy Poh Song Fish Head (RM30) is also another popular order here.
The same fish head is lavishly garnises with fried choy poh (sweet-salty radish), garlic and chillies.
This certainly packed a bit more flavour vs. the ginger-style mentioned above – and is a hit with most customers, we observed.
Also – fish is sweet and fresh.
Veggies
Chong Brothers only offer three types of veggie dishes.
While the Water Spinach (RM90) is not our typical favourite order, the one here is decently steamed and seasoned with soy gravy and fried garlic.
Nevertheless, we recommend the Steamed Bean Sprouts (RM9) instead as the sprouts were big, fat and juicy. We liked the addition of fried salted fish bits to elevate the dish.
Steamed Tofu and Hakka Char yuk
The Steamed Tofu (RM9) here is a simple dish with white tofu garnished with dried shrimps and topped with sweet sauce. It was simple but nice.
However, we thought the Hakka Char Yuk (RM26) was just OK as the meat was not as tender as we prefer. The gravy was also a bit lacking in flavour.
Summary
Chong Brothers Restaurant is a great spot if you’re looking for steamed fishes that are well-cooked and reasonably priced. RECOMMENDED!
