Dosan Butcher 도산정육 in Gangnam
[Non-halal] On our last night in Seoul, we had a really good K-BBQ at Dosan Butcher 도산정육 in Gangnam.
BTS fans will recognise the place as the favourite spot for Jungkook, Jin and Suga. In fact, you can find their signatures on placards displayed here.
Dosan Butcher 도산정육 in Seoul
Dosan Butcher is located in Gangnam, one of the more popular districts in Seoul.
This Korean BBQ restaurant is known for its high quality meat that are dry and wet-aged – which makes it a favourite spot for celebrities.
Despite that, we didn’t have to wait too long to get a table on a Tuesday evening.
Jeju pork at Dosan Butcher
Jeju pork is one of the most highly-rated in Korea, and we enjoyed it during our trip to the island earlier this year.
Hence, we were quite excited to try the Jeju pork cuts offered here – albeit they are priced at a premium vs. other joints.
While Dosan Butcher does serve a few beef dishes, the specialty here seems to be the BBQ Jeju pork – which we didn’t mind as we had a great time with Hanwoo beef at Born & Bred previously (see post here).
700g worth of quality Jeju BBQ Pork
For two pax, we’d recommend the Dosan Special (KRW76,000 or USD54) as it comprises 300g of pork shoulder, 150g of belly, and 150g of ribs.
As we wanted to treat ourselves for the last night in Seoul, we decided to get a portion of the Jeju BBQ Pork Belly with Bone (KRW15,000 per gram) instead.
As each cut is prepped from the butcher upon order, our portion of 774g came up to KRW131,580 (or USD94). However, the portion was manageable as it included the bone which roughly weighs 100g or so.
As you can imagine, the cut actually comprises a few different sections which yield different texture and flavour. And they come with a bevy of different dips and condiments to make the meal interesting throughout the night.
The sirloin was best paired with the anchovies and sesame dip, and also goes well with the wasabi and salt.
We enjoyed the back ribs the most with the soybean powder and spicy sweet sauce.
Finally, the actual pork belly cut goes best with the seasoned scallop and spicy salad.
Jeju Pork Ribs
We also tried a portion of the Jeju Pork Ribs (KRW56,100) for 376 grams.
However, we do prefer the previous cut to this as the latter had the perfect variance of texture and flavours – with lovely natural sweetness from the pork.
Doenjang-jjigae was nice
We also enjoyed the Doenjang-jjigae (KRW8,000) which provided a nice hearty break to all the meat we were consuming.
Summary
If you’re looking for quality pork cooked the right way – this is one of the places to visit.
The service is also excellent, and it is definitely a bonus for any BTS fans.
