[Non-halal] Happy Kai Si Hor Fun-Day!
We checked out this spot in Section 17 PJ following a friend’s recommendation. Funny thing – we have passed by this spot a gazillion times without realising there’s a shop selling Ipoh-style hor fun.
It was a very decent bowl. We recommend the Poached Kampung Chicken, Hor Fun and Ipoh White Coffee.
Ipoh hor fun
The Hor Fun rice noodles (RM6.50) were smooth (one of the better ones we had in PJ) and soup was tasty.
Mind you, this is more similar to Penang kuey teow th’ng – as there are no prawns. Nevertheless, the soup was tasty and adequately sweet-savoury.
The noodles come with sliced pork belly, shredded chicken and fishballs. Max enjoyed it but Ming prefers the prawn-base style.
The Poached Kampung Chicken here is good (RM16 for quarter leg)! The meat is tender smooth and cooked just right – neither over or undercooked (we don’t like a bloody chicken). We like that the soy sauce mix was not too salty with a hint of sweetness.

We also enjoyed the Ipoh White Coffee here – sweet, creamy with lovely buttery roasted coffee taste. The foam on top is perfect. We saw a couple come here just for coffee and roti bakar (Oklah, next time we try).

While this shop is located at the old flats (close to Max’s favourite Rojak & Cendol Mustaffa in Section 17) the place is super clean and tidy.
There is a banner that says: “50% off for senior citizens above 65 years old”. It’s only applicable during breakfast time of 7-11.30am though.
