Jessie’s Special ABC
[Pork-free] Cool off on a hot day at Jessie’s Special ABC in PJ Old Town.
While our favourite ABC stall is also located here at the Taman Selera Food Court (see post here), we decided to check out Jessie’s stall just a few doors down one day.
Jessie’s Special ABC is also a good choice if you like a prominent gula Melaka flavour with your ais kacang.
Jessie’s Special ABC in PJ Old Town
Jessie’s Special ABC stall was started by Aunty Jessie and her son in 2019.
What sets Jessie’s apart is the use of thick 100% Gula Melaka syrup for its shaved ice offerings.
The standard Special ABC (RM5) is served with ingredients such as red beans, cendol, peanuts, jelly, cincau and corn which are found at the bottom of the bowl. The shaved ice is drizzled with coconut milk and gula Melaka syrup.
We did enjoy this bowl as the caramelised flavours of the gula Melaka syrup was prominent, but not too strong to overpower the other ingredients.
ABC with only Red Bean
Jessie also offers ABC with only Cendol, or Cendol/Red Bean (RM5).
As Ming does not like cendol, she opted for the Red Bean only ABC.
As expected from the pictured menu, the dessert came with a generous serving of Red Bean paste on top. Do note that the Gula Melaka fragrance is even more prominent when you omit the other ingredients.
Summary
Overall, we rather enjoyed Jessie’s Special ABC although we still prefer Aunty Peggy’s a few doors down.
Jessie’s also serves Honey Jelly Shaved Ice and other local drinks such as barley and Kedondong Sour Plum.
For food, do check out Gerai Seong Kee (stall no. 35) for freshly made-to-order yong tau foo, and Gerai Makanan Kie Kee (stall no. 41) for chicken rice.
