[Non-halal] Here’s the BEST MEAL of our Penang trip! It’s also probably one of the best koay teow th’ng in Penang.
Best Koay Teow Th’ng in Penang?
Located within the compound of the colonial mansion occupied by the State Chinese (Penang) Association, Loh Kei serves a great bowl of duck meat koay teow th’ng.
While still off the radar of tourists, Loh Kei seems quite popular with locals who come early for the noodles.
Koay teow th’ng
Silky smooth noodles and generous fillings
It’s SO GOOD! The Koay Teow Th’ng is such a good bowl (and probably one of the best bowls of this kind that we ever had).
The koay teow is so silky smooth, and the soup so rich and flavourful. The latter has a natural sweetness from the stock and the right balance of savouriness.
The standard bowl comes with a good amount of “leow” – two fishballs, two meatballs, shredded duck meat and topped with fried pork lard.
Duck meat
Tender duck meat
We also recommend ordering a side of Duck Meat. As it was sliced thinly, the duck meat was amazingly tender and did not taste gamey at all. It goes so well with the light soy sauce mix and crunchy bean sprouts.
Dry noodles
Dry noodles is well seasoned
The Dry Noodle version does not disappoint either, as the soy sauce mix is actually tasty and not bland. Also, the accompanying chilli sauce has the right punch of acidity and spiciness.
Our meal costs us RM21 – such a good deal for this very satisfying meal!
Highly Recommended
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We definitely want to return when we head up north again (salivating as we type this) and pray that it won’t become too famous then so we can get our fix easily.
This is a must-visit if you are in Penang Island! Come early to avoid disappointment – they open at 7.30am and apparently sell out by lunchtime.
This is truly one of the best koay teow th’ng in Penang.
