Pak Lock Wantan Mee, Pudu
[Non-halal] The wantan mee stall at Pak Lock Restaurant in Pudu has been operating for more than 40 years.
Also known as the Four Brothers Wantan Mee, Pak Lock has been serving the local community (and beyond) with its generous bowls of egg noodles topped with char siew and/or siew yoke.
The stall is particularly popular with the lunch crowd, so it’s best to come early.
Wantan Mee with Char Siew
For RM16, we ordered the medium portion of Wantan Mee with Char Siew and Wantan, together with a cup of Kopi Ais.
The egg noodles are cooked to a nice al dente bite, while the gravy is savoury-forward with a hint of sweetness without being too greasy.
The char siew has a good balance of fat and meat, and isn’t overly fatty to the point of making the dish jelak.
The pork dumplings were quite scrumptious too. We also liked that the stall serves a radish soup on the side, which gives a nice balance to the meal — and is a much-welcome upgrade from the usual basic, MSG-laden soup served at many wantan mee stalls.
Overall, a great bowl of old-school wantan mee in Pudu.
