[Pork-free] Restoran Lan Je 蘭姐清蒸非洲鱼 is one of our regular spots for a quick and easy dinner.
We’ve eaten at Restoran Lan Je in Kota Damansara for years, and the food has been consistently good.
Originating from Rawang with a few branches in the Klang Valley, Restoran Lan Je is known for its fresh tilapia steamed with ginger. The quality of the tilapia had always been fresh and healthy as they are all sourced from Lan Je’s own farm.

Restoran Lan Je’s signature dish here is the steamed tilapia with ginger.
In fact, the restaurant’s famous slogan here is “一人一鱼” or “One fish per person”.
Nevertheless, we always find that one fish is good enough to share between the two of us, as we do enjoy their other dishes too.

Priced from RM18, Restoran Lan Je’s signature ginger steamed tilapia is a must order.
You can opt between non-spicy, normal, and extra spicy – but we find that the normal option has the right amount of cili padi heat to complement the ginger-based flavours.
As the fishes are farmed by Lan Je, they are always consistently fresh and sweet, with no “fishy” aftertaste at all. In the last decade or so, the fish are always cooked perfectly to yield the best texture.
We also enjoy Lan Je’s broth as it has enough ginger heat with a good soy sauce and garlic base. The cili padi gives it the extra punch!
Beancurd with prawns
We are creatures of habit whenever we visit Lan Je.
Besides the steamed fish, the Beancurd with Prawns (RM11 for small) and Stir-Fry Baby Kailan (Choy Tam) or Sweet Potato Leaves (RM10) are our standard orders here.
If available, we’ll also have a bowl of their Lotus Root Peanut Soup (RM9).
What we enjoy about the bean curd dish is that the home-made tofu is always fresh and the prawns are always succulent.
The stir-fry veggies are not oily with enough garlicky kick, and the soup has enough lotus root flavours with chicken stock as the base.
Summary
We’ve eaten here for almost a decade (and also at their old branch in SS3) – and the food here never missed the mark.
Lan Je is truly one of the best neighbourhood restaurants in Kota Damansara. RECOMMENDED!
