If you’re working in downtown KL close to Jalan Ampang, here’s an absolute hidden gem on Jalan Damai. In fact, we often come here with our colleagues for lunch.
Kelab Aman is not only a popular spot for locals to play cricket, but there’s also a little-known restaurant serving lovely Punjab food. The restaurant is also open to non-members.
In a previous life, this restaurant used to be called Myra but it had since closed down with a new management taking over this joint. [Updated: The official name is Restoran Hasheel Sidhu but just google Kelab Aman to get here].
Find naan, chapati, and dishes such as palak paneer and mutton varuval here, as well as brewed coffee and masala tea.
The Punjab Vegetarian Thali set looks worth it for RM10, comprising briyani rice, chapati/puri, dhal, three types of vegetables, dahi raita, pappadom, and dessert. As we came in a big group, we ordered dishes to share.
Naan for me, none for you
We enjoyed our bread choices today – Cheese Naan and Garlic Naan were perfectly done with enough cheese and garlic, respectively.
The briyani packs some heat
The Briyani has a bit more heat, but the mutton/chicken was sizeable and very tender.
We also enjoyed the Prawn Masala very much – gravy was so good to go with our bread, and the prawns were really succulent. We always order this when we are here.
Palak paneer
We find no faults as well with our Palak Paneer, Bendi Masala, and Butter Chicken.
Butter chicken
You know it’s a real local joint as most patrons are Punjabis (as well as the portraits adorning the wall). It’s a great quiet spot for lunch overlooking the cricket ground. NOTE: Cash are not acceptable.
