Sun King City, OUG
[Non-halal] After years of seeing it on Andy Tham’s Instagram, we finally made our pilgrimage to Sun King City in OUG.
This kai si hor fun stall is reportedly one of Andy’s favourites – and since our taste buds are somewhat aligned, we knew we had to check it out for ourselves.
And it did not disappoint.

Sun King City is located in the ever-busy commercial area of Overseas Union Garden (OUG).
Occupying a middle shoplot, this kopitiam/cha sat houses a number of stalls, including the afore-mentioned kai si hor fun stall.
However, we noticed that the other stalls here have their own steady patronage as we spotted a number of tables ordering from the Western food and pork noodles stalls.
We were definitely intrigued, and made a mental note to return to try the rest.
Scrumptious kai si hor fun at Sun King City
Our mission here was clear: two bowls of Kai Si Hor Fun (RM10 per bowl) and a side of Poached Chicken Breast (RM6) to share.
If you were not paying attention – we mentioned above that it was good.
All the qualities that make a good bowl of Kai Si Hor Fun (by our standards, at least) were here.
One: Silky smooth rice noodles that are soft and slurplicious – that it’s almost impossible to take a nice “noodle pull” photo.
Two: Broth with deep umami and a lovely balance of savouriness from chicken bones and prawn oil with a good hint of sweetness.
Three: The shredded chicken pieces and prawn were lovely.
Good sweet chicken breast
You will not be faulted for thinking the stall doesn’t sell kai si hor fun.
In fact, the stall proprietor actually specialises in poached chicken rice and was once known as the “chicken rice prince” of Taman Desa.
And it showed. The poached chicken breast was super smooth and supple, and we could taste the natural sweetness of the meat.
The soy sauce mix was lovely with accents from fried garlic bits and ginger paste. This was a perfect supplementary dish to the bowls of kai si hor fun.
Summary
You have two votes of “yes” from the both of us for the noodles and poached chicken here. So good we finished the bowl to the last drop.
