Yo cruffin, what’s happenin’?
Max’s good friend was so nice to surprise him with cruffins from 55 Layers for his birthday.
Cruffin is essentially a kacukan (hybrid) between croissant and muffin. Essentially, what you get is croissant pastry made into a muffin shape, with the lovely buttery layers of croissant containing delicious fillings!
55 Layers’ box arrived looking pretty at our home – with four cruffins inside with different flavours and toppings.
Lemon cinnamon (top) and matcha (bottom)
Our favourite has to be the Matcha (RM9) – beautiful cruffin coated with sugar and matcha powder. The matcha cream inside is so rich and creamy – we just love how pekat (thick) it is!
We also enjoyed the Lemon Cinnamon (RM7) – laminated detrempe infused with tangy lemon butter. The tangy lemon cream went well with the cinnamon sugar.
Delicious matcha filling Lemon cinnamon
Glazed with extra dark choc and a hazelnut cream filling, we like that the Chocolate Hazelnut (RM8) is not very sweet with the nuts providing some crunch.
Chocolate hazelnut Truffle cream cheese
The Truffled Cream Cheese (RM9) is the sole savoury piece of the lot – cruffin layered with truffle-flavoured butter and truffle cream cheese filling. This is definitely an acquired taste – which we haven’t acquired yet, haha.
We really enjoyed the cruffins – and not just because it is an unexpected gift from a friend. It is really yummy!
As the name implies, the cruffins are made with 55 layers of love (baker said so) – yielding the perfect buttery and flaky croissant texture.
