Pal Gong San Jang 팔공산장
[Non-halal] We are always game to try out new KBBQ spots in town. Pal Gong San Jang 팔공산장 is newly opened in Section 17 PJ, offering premium pork cuts cooked over charcoal fire.
While the owner hails from Daegu, we were pleased to find that the restaurant takes inspiration from different regions across South Korea.
While it doesn’t serve Jeju pork, the cuts here were actually really good. They also offer the fermented anchovy dip commonly associated with the southern island.
Pal Gong San Jang offers a few BBQ sets, but we prefer ordering à la carte as there are certain cuts we enjoy more. The portions were more than enough for us too – and we saved some money!

Korean BBQ in Section 17 PJ

Moksal (pork neck) is our staple KBBQ order. It is less fatty than samgyeopsal (pork belly), with more even marbling.
But our favourite cut is always the hangjungsal (pork jowl). When cooked properly, it is superbly tender and juicy and less oily than pork belly.

You can wrap the meat here with pickled garlic leaves, or enjoy it with two types of kimchi and a special mushroom dip. But for us, a simple dip in salt is still the best!

We also recommend the Kimchi Jjigae, which makes a comforting accompaniment to all that grilled pork.

Reservations are advised to avoid a long wait.
