Busan Sikdang, Kota Damansara
[Non-halal] We’re always excited when a new spot selling dwaeji gukbap opens in town.
Busan Sikdang is a newly-opened Korean restaurant in Kota Damansara.
Having lived in KL and Kota Kinabalu for more than a decade, the Busan-born owner decided to share his passion for dwaeji gukbap with his first F&B venture.
He takes inspiration from his mother’s former restaurant in Busan, as well as popular dwaeji gukbap spots in his hometown.

Authentic Dwaeji Gukbap in Busan Sikdang
The result is a very authentic and satisfying bowl of Dwaeji Gukbap (RM25).

The pork jowl here is tender without being too soft. The meat is first boiled and then chilled for hours before being finished in the broth, giving it a lovely texture. In fact, these are some of the best-textured pork slices we’ve had in KL.
The pork bone broth is lightly savoury. True to Busan style, dadaegi (다대기), or minced chilli paste, is already added to the broth, giving it extra umami and a mildly spicy kick.

The owner also makes it a point to use real saeujeot (Korean fermented shrimp) instead of cincalok, as he finds the latter tends to be too salty.

The Braised Pork Spine Rib (RM33) should please those who enjoy a sweet-savoury broth. Think ABC soup, but with a pronounced sweetness from the carrots.
The food is good, and the service is even better. RECOMMENDED!
