[Pork-free, Muslim-friendly] There are two things we absolutely love in Klang – Bak Kut Teh and Regent’s Pandan Layer Cake. We’ve now added a third to the list – the famous Apple Strudel from Fruity Cake & Bakery.
Recipe from down under
To be honest, we weren’t expecting much when we pre-ordered Fruity’s Apple Strudel (RM30.30). Fruity uses an original recipe from Perth in Australia, which is also home to the famous apple strudel from Corica Pastries.
We tried Corica’s strudel about 8 years ago – but since it was so long ago, we have little recollection of how it tasted like. So, we can only judge Fruity’s on its own merits (which is fair, after all).
The verdict – it was so mind-blowingly good!

Straight out of the box, the 12-inch loaf already looks so appetizing with its sugar-glazed pastry and generous apple filing.
How do we love it? Let us count the ways:-
- The puff pastry was light, flaky, and airy. In fact, we had to be really careful when handling the strudel as it was so delicate.
- The perfect portion of cream and custard just complements the puff and apple filling.
- Finally, the apple bits were not overcooked until mushy. Instead, it was baked sufficiently to retain the natural crispiness, crunch, and sweetness of the fresh apples.
Beautiflul glazed puff pastry… 
We also love that there was none of that artificial, saccharine sweetness. Every element came together so well for a light and refreshing dessert.
We pre-ordered and picked up our Strudel at 1pm on a weekday. The store was very spacious and clean with few patrons allowed in at any one time.
Less (Apple) talk, more pastries
We also took home a Cream Horn (RM3.90), Choc Hazelnut Amour (RM5.30), and a pair of Cream Puffs (RM3). These were nice and not very sweet – but alas, they just couldn’t compare to the strudel.

Our Verdict
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! We advise you to pre-order as these are baked daily on confirmed orders, with some allocation for customers who walk into their Klang store.
Pick-up option closer to KL
Closer to home, customers can also pick up the apple strudels at H Floriste in Mont Kiara (but only for pre-orders; check their IG for more info).
These strudels can only last 2 hours outside of the fridge, and have to be consumed within 3 days of purchase (not that it was a problem for us, hehe).
