A Chinese tea house selling Japanese shaved ice desserts? Yes, you read that right.

Ben Gong’s Tea & Dessert

Ben Gong is a tea house franchise with branches in Lalaport, Kota Damansara, and Cheras.

As the name implies, Ben Gong serves a variety of Chinese tea-based milk tea and fruit tea.

Ben Gong also serves Japanese kakigori in four flavours: Gold Oolong, Chocolate, Matcha, and Mango.

Gold Oolong Kakigori

We were recommended the Gold Oolong Kakigori (RM23.90) here, and we enjoyed it.

The texture of the shaved ice is soft and fluffy like snow, but the kicker is the strong oolong tea taste.

The kakigori is served with two types of jelly, taro balls, cream on top as well as some crispy bits for texture.

Chocolate Kakigori

However, we found the Chocolate Kakigori (RM27.90) too rich and sweet for us.

While this should please any chocolate fans, we found the chocolate taste a bit too cloying after awhile. It alos came across as a shaved Milo ice dessert.
