[Pork-free Muslim friendly] For some great crab, check out Damansara Venicia in Damansara Perdana.
This pork-free Chinese restaurant is an offshoot of the popular Bangsar Venicia (which operates within the Bangsar Puteri Condo).
We enjoyed our Butter Milk Crabs (2 for RM49 during the promo opening). Sauce was creamy and perfect for dips with their fried mantou. We were told their lamb was good but unfortunately it was not available on that day.
Black pepper venison
Salted egg chicken
Nevertheless, we ordered Black Pepper Venison and Salted Egg Chicken – both were excellently done. The venison was tender while the salted egg was at just the right dose with a crunchy batter.
(Clockwise from top left) Nyonya paku-pakis, mantou, venison, salted egg chicken
Nyonya stir-fry vegetables
The Nyonya Paku Pakis was also very good with the right amount of spices – I only wished the portion was bigger. The Nyonya style actually goes well any type of vegetables on offer.
Chilli crabs
Kam Heong crabs
For our second visit to this place, we ordered the Chilli Crabs and Kam Heong Crabs. Chilli crab sauce was the perfect balance of sweet, savoury and spicy and went well with our fried mantou. The Kam Heong also had enough kick for pincher-licking goodness.
Sambal petai
Surprise for the night was the Sambal Petai dish – fresh succulent prawns really elevated the dish with the fragrant petai.
Lanb pot
We also finally tried the Lamb Pot – the sauce is certainly something different – a bit peppery and savoury. While not as outstanding as we imagined it to be, it was enjoyable.
While not Halal-certified, the kitchen sources all its produce from Halal-approved suppliers and thus, is Muslim-friendly. Prices are actually quite reasonable and it is a good place for casual family gatherings as well as a lunch spot for office workers nearby.
