[Pork-free, Halal ingredients] Ipoh kai si hor fun is one of our favourite noodles soup!
So, we were pretty excited to try the Signature Ipoh Hor Fun Soup at Inside Ipoh in Damansara Uptown.
The verdict! This was a great bowl of KSHF! The hor fun was the standout – it was thin and so silky smooth. We had a lovely chat with the owner, who confirmed that the noodles are brought in fresh from Ipoh.
Silky smooth rice noodles
The broth has a slight milky, cloudy hue – which is a good indication of the soup’s quality. And it did not disappoint – it was very robust and sweet. We love the generous amount of prawn oil. The prawns and shredded chicken were fresh too.
Cloudy broth that’s robust and sweet
We ordered the KSHF as part of a Lunch Set (RM10.50). This came with a Chrysanthemum drink (lukewarm, “kau” and less sweet – the way we like it).
As this shop only uses Halal ingredients, we are happy to bring our Muslim friends here.
Steamed chicken rice
The Steamed Chicken Rice (RM8.90 as a set) was commendable. The chicken was cooked just right – soft and tender with no bloody parts at all.
Rice was also fragrant. While nowhere as plump as the beansprouts in Ipoh, the taugeh here was fresh and crunchy.
The White Coffee was also fragrant and not very sweet.
Turns out that Inside Ipoh is operated by the same owners behind Annie1 (famous for their wantan mee) around the corner. The family loved KSHF so much that they decided to open this place last August.
The owner’s daughter, who was behind the counter that day, also recommends the Ipoh Dry curry and Curry Noodle Soup dishes.
We will definitely come back again! The space was clean, comfortable and had good ventilation. All important points in our quest for good food amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
