Porking Mad, PJ
[Non-halal] Almost every Sunday, we make our usual pit stop at Satellite 33 (see here) for chicken rice. But this week, we felt a little adventurous and checked out Porking Mad at Chuan Lee Restaurant down the road.
Porking Mad is one of the few spots in KL serving pork nasi lemak.
Denis started the stall during the Covid-19 lockdown and prides himself on serving three types of pork dishes here – pork rendang, pork varuval and babi goreng berempah.
We arrived close to 1pm and managed to snag the last few servings of pork varuval and rendang. It was RM12 for our nasi lemak with both dishes and a freshly fried egg.
Pork rendang and pork varuval

For RM12, the portion was excellent. In fact, we finished the fragrant rice before we could wipe the plate clean.
The pork varuval is the less spicy of the two. The dish has a dry gravy, while the pork is served in chunky pieces that remain tender.

Those who prefer a spicier kick would enjoy the pork rendang. It comes with more gravy, while the pork is sliced a little thinner to really absorb the spices. Both pork dishes were hearty and satisfying.
The sambal isn’t too spicy and suits our palate. We’d like to come back to try the babi goreng berempah and fried chicken.
