Curry Bondy, Tokyo
[Non-halal] There are plenty of Japanese curry shops in Tokyo, but Curry Bondy was the one recommended to us by a local friend. And it turned out to be really good.
Operating since 1973, Curry Bondy remains popular with both locals and tourists alike.

Browse through the menu and you’ll find curry served with beef cubes, chicken and pork. However, the Beef Curry (JPY1,800 or USD11) is the signature dish and the most popular order here.
It’s quite unlike the Japanese curries we’ve had elsewhere.

Made using a secret blend of Indian spices, fruits and butter, the curry has a thick, chutney-like consistency with hints of peppery spice and subtle apple sweetness.

The beef cubes were chunky yet tender, pairing beautifully with the rich curry. The slightly sticky Japanese rice was the perfect companion to the unctuous gravy. The complimentary serving of hot baked potatoes might be a carb overkill, but they were especially delicious when slathered with butter.
Curry Bondy can get particularly busy during lunch and dinner hours, so we’d recommend visiting around 8pm (like we did) to avoid the crowds.
