[Non-halal] Jiang Nan Restaurant is the porky sister restaurant operated by the same folks behind Bangsar Venicia.

As you may recall, Bangsar Venicia (see here) is one of our favourite spots for pork-free Chinese food, and we’ve brought friends and colleagues there for dinner on several occasions.

The food at Jiang Nan Restaurant is equally stellar, and it has become a regular spot for us this year.

Those who’ve been to Bangsar Venicia would be familiar with its excellent Chinese dishes and complimentary fruit at the end of the meal.

Jiang Nan is no exception. The restaurant offers a complimentary soup of the day (usually radish pork soup based on our past few visits) and fresh fruit (usually mango or honeydew) for diners.

The service here is also excellent. Our favourite dishes at Bangsar Venicia are the claypot curry fish slices, salted egg sotong and pumpkin tofu.

The food at Jiang Nan is equally delicious – though we usually come here for the porky stuff.

Bangsar Venicia does an excellent fish curry, so we’re quite pleased with the Dry Curry Pork Ribs (RM35) here. The curry gravy is thick, fragrant and not too spicy, with a prominent lemongrass aroma. The ribs are also cooked to superb tenderness.

The Braised Pork Ribs with Yam (RM35) should please those who enjoy yam, and we liked the addition of dried shrimp to elevate the flavours. The pork ribs are equally tender.

Both Jiang Nan and Venicia are masters of seafood – so we’re quite happy with the Nyonya Fried Garoupa. The deep-fried fish goes well with the thick Nyonya gravy, which has a good balance of sourness and spiciness. You can also opt for steamed fish.
